On Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 12PM (EST) the next John Shaw Billings History of Medicine Society talk will focus on the 150-year legacy of Eli Lilly. Indiana University's Richard B Gunderman, MD, PhD (Chancellor's Professor of Radiology, Pediatrics, Medical Education, Philosophy, Liberal Arts, Philanthropy, and Medical Humanities and Health Studies, and John A. Campbell Professor of Radiology) will present "The Man Who Founded the World’s Largest Health Company: Eli Lilly" in Daly Student Center, 186 (1050 W. Walnut Street Indianapolis) and virtually via Zoom. Advance registration is required to receive the Zoom link.
This year, 2026, marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of Eli Lilly and Co, which is the world’s largest health company and the foundation for America’s largest private philanthropy, the Lilly Endowment. In this talk, Dr. Gunderman will discuss who Colonel Eli Lilly was, the most formative forces in his life, and how his story can serve to inspire contemporary leaders in healing and giving. Please join us for this special (especially to Indiana) event!
